Vuohi: The rising era of goat
19/08/11 || Smalley
The style of Finland’s Vuohi on “The rising era of penis” is a lil’ bit of black, a lil’ bit of death, a lil’ bit of grind, and a lil’ bit of thrash, so you can’t really pin them down concretely to any one sub-genre, though I mostly hear grindcore when it comes to the song structuring, considering how fast ‘n short everything here is. I hear some death in the guitar tone, and black in the vocals (with the occasionally death-y part), with some kinda shitty production (though still tolerable) that would cost “rising era” points if it wasn’t just a demo.
Still, it all has energy to spare, there’s the occasional interesting songwriting switch-up, with some kinda ambitious-sounding parts (like on track 4), but although most of ‘em here run together in one big, furious blend, it’s still a decently, brutally fun blend nonetheless. The vocals do grate after a while, but still not enough ruin “goat”, so…
6,5/10: Just ignore some of the silly movie sample-intros here, and you just might have some fun headbanging. Just clean up the production and vary up the vocals/songwriting some more when it comes time for a full-length, ‘kay Vuohi?
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
